Minnesota Cycling

Where can you ride more than 100 miles past lakes and farmland on wide asphalt bike trails, mostly with the wind at your back? The Central Lakes Trail and Lake Wobegon Trail from Fergus Falls to St. Joseph, Minnesota take you more than halfway across the state. You're never far from food and lodging, thanks to the proximity of Interstate 94, but you're far enough from the traffic to enjoy the birds and flowers.

"Roll Over America"

For 4 weeks in late July and early August 2011, 43 velomobile riders in 3-wheel vehicles powered by 2 pedals will cross America from 1 ocean to the other. We were excited to learn that the route -- originally planned along a more southern alignment -- has been changed so that it will come through our home town Minneapolis.

Riders from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and Italy will be joined by a contingent of North American velomobilists, starting in Portland, Oregon and crossing the United States to Washington, D.C.

The photo is from a velomobile rally in 2005 in Giessen, Germany. Many of the velomobiles and riders from that rally will be coming to the U.S. for this exciting event.

With a couple of co-ops and several Oriental groceries as well as some regular grocery stores, we enjoy a wide range of choices. The VeloCase and CityBox panniers can hold enough for a day or two, and if we need more, we take a trike and trailer
